About FAPP

The Foundation for the Advancement of the Paralegal Profession (FAPP) was incorporated as a nonprofit under the Pennsylvania Nonprofit Corporation Law of 1988. It is organized and operated exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The idea to form such a foundation was born from the desires of the member associations of the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) to utilize profits from its Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam to help establish an independent organization for the benefit of the entire paralegal profession. Although the funding for incorporating the Foundation was provided by NFPA, the Foundation is independent and unaffiliated with any national association or organization.

In its efforts towards Empowering and Promoting Paralegals™, the Foundation has adopted a policy relating to the benefits of voluntary certification for paralegals. It has also developed a grant program in support of that policy.
